With careful observations, I gathered that sexual sins are some of the most prevalent sins in our communities. Like any other sin, sexual sins have their consequences too. What do sexual sins have to do with obedience?
We were instructed about the kind of sexual relations we should not engage in. Those instructions were commands that we had to obey but we have habitually disobeyed those commmands as if we are no longer in sync with guilt. As if we no longer love God.
From personal experience, it seems as though the sense of guilt was short lived. In fact, my fear to sin seemed only to be present while in the company of witnesses.
I'll list some sexual sins that God is expecting us to abstain or flee from completely.
For every action there is a consequence. You either obey out of love and get a good reward or you disobey and lose.
So what does Obey means?
According to dictionary.com, Obey, means to submit to the authority of someone or comply with a law. Now, when we keep committing sinful acts day after day, are we being obedient? Definitely not. Repeatedly sinning gives the impression that we do not submit to the commands given by God.
God's will for our lives is clearly stated in scripture. He wants us the unmarried to abstain from sex until marriage, men to stop having sexual relations with other men, relatives to remains relatives and not lovers, women to not assume the role of men in relationships by becoming a male sexual partner, and the list goes on. We know how God feels about disobedient people. Those of us who keep on reapeating our sinful acts are being referred to as children of the devil. This is because children of God loves him. The expression of love for God is seen in obedience to his word.
Its time that we start acting wise and let go of all forms of wordly pleasures and not just those that are sexually related. Wordly pleasures that can range from sin committed through the love of money to sin lead by drunkeness. Be mindful of the fact that disobedience leads to hell.
Do we forget that God is not a respector of persons. This can very well mean that he is not compelled to wait until we decide on a set time to stop sinning. Some make the statement "I will stop when I'm old." Who is sure of tomorrow? No one!
The things that we so much enjoy might very well pave the way for our destruction.
Sexual sins are not the only sins we should try hard to eradicate out of our lives but all sins for we serve a God who only dwells in clean vessels.
Yours in Christ,
